Hi I’m Kim Chamberlain, founder of Chrysalis for Women. In 2002 I set up Successful Speaking, a training and speaking organisation (http://www.successfulspeaking.biz/home/) which offers workshops and conference speaking. Although open to both genders, the business attracted a sizeable number of women who were looking for women-centred services, along with a way to increase their confidence; a way to be inspired; and avenues to access help regarding issues they were facing. While I provided some of these services via Successful Speaking - training courses, books, seminars etc - I could see that a business specifically for women’s personal and professional development could provide more. My work has brought me into contact with many women passionate about helping other women move on in various aspects of their lives. I’m keen to harness this wonderful energy and bring as much of it together through the one provision as I can. I chose the name Chrysalis as it embodies the concept of growth, development and change. It fits in nicely with the quote from Maya Angelou ‘We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty’. Becoming the person we want to be takes work. It involves taking steps forward. Chrysalis for Women is about helping women to take the next step in their life.
About Kim Born in Liverpool in the UK, I’ve had a lifelong interest in setting up new initiatives, in connecting people, and in language. I also have a love of moving to new places. So far I’ve lived in ten places within five countries, including New Zealand and Uganda, East Africa. Creating new services that are of benefit to others has been a passion of mine, and I’ve been able to find a way to do this in many aspects of my life. For example, several initiatives when I worked as a careers advisor for clients with special needs; a support group for home-based business people; a dress agency for dancers; a new chapter of the professional speakers association; unique services via Successful Speaking. Developing my interest in language has led me to gain a degree in Linguistics, along with speaking qualifications and awards; a national speaking championship; an international writing award; and several books published. I love connecting with people via the written word, so emails, newsletters and blogging feature heavily in my life. Other than these, the two biggest aspects of my life are my wonderful husband and children … and chocolate! Equally.
